Treat Your Tenants Well

Investing in real estate can encompass much more than just owning your own home. Real estate rentals can be a great market to get into and provide you with security and long term wealth.

Living in Edmonton doesn't mean you have to only buy or sell there. Instead you can take advantage of property values in Fort McMurray even though it is hours away. Real estate in a booming market like Alberta's is a great place to start as tenants are abundant and property values look to be holding steady for some time yet.

When you are ready to buy a home to rent remember that even though you won't be living there it will be home to your tenants so make it warm for them. A welcome basket of edible goodies or a bucket of household products is a nice place to start. They will be taking care of your investment so it is wise to treat them well. Do the little things that you would want from a landlord and remember that without them your investment would lose. Sure you could sell it and make a short term profit but keeping it to rent is better in the long run as long as everyone gets what they want.

Tenants rent sometimes because they aren't in a position to buy or the market prices are too high or even because no one wants to sell in the neighbourhood they want to live in. That property may just be a property to you but it is home to them and if you treat them well they will take care of it for you.
